1.
Hark, the glad sound! the Savior comes The Savior promised long Let every heart prepare a throne For Him to reign upon He comes, the prisoners to release In Satan’s bondage held The gates of hell before Him burst The iron fetters yield The Savior comes, the Savior comes! The Savior promised long O may our hearts prepare a throne For Him to reign upon He comes, from thickest films of vice To clear the mental ray And on the eyes oppressed with night To pour celestial day He comes, the broken heart to bind The bleeding soul to cure And with the treasures of His grace To bless the humble poor His silver trumpets publish loud The jubilee of the Lord Our debts are all remitted now Our heritage restored Our glad hosannas, Prince of Peace Thy welcome shall proclaim And heaven’s eternal arches ring With Thy beloved name
2.
Arise, my soul, my joyful powers And triumph in my God Awake, my voice, and loud proclaim His glorious grace abroad He raised me from the deeps of sin The gates of gaping hell And fixed my standing more secure Than ’twas before I fell Arise, my soul; awake, my voice And tunes of pleasure sing Loud hallelujahs shall address My Savior and my King The arms of everlasting love Beneath my soul He placed And on the rock of ages set My slippery footsteps fast The city of my blessed abode Is walled around with grace Salvation for a bulwark stands To shield the sacred place Loud hallelujahs! Loud hallelujahs! Loud hallelujahs to our King!
3.
We have come to give You praise Almighty God, lift up our gaze Lord, we long to see Your face Won’t You come and fill this place? Won’t You come and fill this place? Come, we that love the Lord And let our joys be known Join in a song with sweet accord And thus surround the throne We now surround the throne Our God, He rules on high And thunders when He please He rides upon the stormy sky And manages the seas He manages the seas This awesome God is ours Our Father and our love He will send down His heavenly powers To carry us above He carries us above So let our songs abound And every tear be dry We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground To fairer worlds on high We long to be on high We’re marching up to the gates of Zion The city of God, where the Most High dwells Where streams make glad our fainting spirits We now surround the throne And worship You alone Hallelujah to the Father Hallelujah to the Son Hallelujah to the Spirit ’Round the throne we have come
4.
Bread of the world, in mercy broken Wine of the soul, in mercy shed By Whom the words of life were spoken And in Whose death our sins are dead Look on the heart by sorrow broken Look on the tears by sinners shed And be Thy feast to us the token That by Thy grace our souls are fed Have mercy, have mercy Have mercy on us Here is mercy, here is mercy Here is mercy for us So let us come to the feast of Jesus Let us eat of the Bread of Life Let us drink of the wine, His blood To talk and dine with Jesus Christ
5.
Lo! He comes with clouds descending Once for favored sinners slain Once for favored sinners slain Thousand, thousand saints attending Swell the triumph of His train Swell the triumph of His train Hallelujah! Hallelujah! God appears on earth to reign Every eye shall now behold Him Robed in dreadful majesty Robed in dreadful majesty Those who set at naught and sold Him Pierced and nailed Him to the tree Pierced and nailed Him to the tree Deeply wailing, deeply wailing Shall the true Messiah see Now redemption, long expected See in solemn pomp appear See in solemn pomp appear All His saints, by man rejected Now shall meet Him in the air Now shall meet Him in the air Hallelujah! Hallelujah! See the day of God appear! The day appear! See the day of God appear! Come, Lord Jesus, quickly come

God is known among His people Every mouth His praises fill From of old He has established His abode on Zion’s hill There He broke the sword and arrow Bade the noise of war be still Excellent and glorious are You With Your trophies from the fray You have slain the mighty warriors Wrapped in sleep of death are they When your anger once is risen Who can stand in that dread day? Awesome is the revelation God is known among us here! Loudest songs of exultation God is known among us here! When from heaven Your sentence sounded All the earth in fear was still While to save the meek and lowly God in judgment wrought His will Even the wrath of man shall praise You Your designs it shall fulfill Vow and pay unto Jehovah Him your God forever own All men, bring your gifts before Him Worship Him and Him alone Mighty kings obey and fear Him Princes bow before His throne! Who is this King of Glory? His name is Jesus! Jesus! Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God His name is Jesus! Jesus! Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace Awesome is the revelation God is known among us here! Loudest songs of jubilation God does now in flesh appear!
8.
Christ the Lord is risen today Sons of men and angels say: “Raise your joys and triumphs high Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply” Love’s redeeming work is done Fought the fight, the battle won Lo! the sun’s eclipse is o’er Lo! He sets in blood no more He is risen, He is risen indeed He is risen, He is risen indeed He is risen, He is risen indeed “Christ is risen!” This is our creed Vain the stone, the watch, the seal Christ has burst the gates of hell Death in vain forbids His rise Christ has opened paradise Lives again our glorious King Where, O death, is now thy sting? Once He died our souls to save Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia… Soar we now where Christ hath led Following our exalted Head Made like Him, like Him we rise Ours the cross, the grave, the skies
9.
All ye gentile lands awake! Thou, O Salem, rise and shine! See the day-spring o’er you break Heralding a morn divine Telling, God hath called to mind Those who long in darkness pined Lo! the shadows flee away For our light is come at length Brighter than all earthly day Source of being, life and strength! Whoso on this light would gaze Must forsake all evil ways Arise, shine, for your light has come And the glory of God rises now, upon you Lift up your eyes and look to the Son For the glory of God gathers all around you Ah, how blindly did we stray Ere shone forth this glorious sun Seeking each our separate way Leaving heaven, unsought, unwon All our looks were earthward bent All our strength on earth was spent But the glory of the Lord Rises upon us today We have seen the light outpoured That must surely drive away All things that to night belong All the sad earth’s woes and wrong Everlasting light, shine graciously within Come, take away our night Come, shine away our sin
10.
Lord, You left your throne and Your kingly crown When You came to earth for me But in Bethlehem’s home there was found no room For Your holy nativity Come to my heart, Lord Jesus There is room in my heart for You You designed my heart as a throne for You Where Your will reigns over me I confess that there, oft my idols reign I am captive, make me free Even while my heart fights against Your will Even while I turn my face You take pity on my helpless soul Tender mercy, amazing grace! We release our lives, we prepare You room We surrender everything We lift up our hearts in response to grace Jesus Christ, come be our King
11.
Light after darkness, gain after loss Strength after weakness, crown after cross Sweet after bitter, hope after fears Home after wandering, praise after tears Weeping may remain for a night But joy arrives in morning’s new light I’ll praise the God of merciful plight Still I will praise Him Still I will praise Him My God Near after distant, gleam after gloom Love after loneliness, life after tomb After long agony, rapture of bliss Right was the pathway leading to this You give and You take away In darkness still I will say “A good God I serve this day” Still I will praise You Still I will praise You

about

www.zachicks.com

The Glad Sound is a simultaneously aggressive and introspective pop/rock/indie modern worship project produced by Zac Hicks and the musicians of Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church. Each track is a setting of texts from the church’s past, written by men and women centuries ago. The Glad Sound provides new melodies and modern instrumentation to these ancient hymns. Every song on the album is written to be accessible for congregational singing, yet The Glad Sound remains inspiring as a whole for anyone who simply wants to enjoy a solid modern worship album.

The phrase “The Glad Sound” comes from the title track’s opening line:

Hark, the glad sound! the Savior comes,
The Savior promised long.
Let every heart prepare a throne
For Him to reign upon.
